FAQs
Know Before You Go
What conditions do physiotherapists treat?
ProCare helps with a wide range of problems, including:
- Back, neck, and joint pain
- Muscle strains and sprains
- Sports injuries (acute and long-term)
- Post-surgery rehabilitation
- Arthritis and age-related stiffness
- Workplace injuries
- Tendon pain
Do I need a GP referral to book an appointment?
No referral is needed – you can book directly with us. Many patients do, and we also work closely with GPs, consultants, and other healthcare professionals if extra support is needed.
What happens at my first physiotherapy session?
Your first appointment is all about listening to your story. We’ll:
- Take time to understand your symptoms and goals
- Carry out a detailed assessment which can include tests that examine; strength, stability, balance, range of movement and more.
- Explain what’s going on in clear, simple terms
- Record this information on your phone for clarity and for reflection after the session
- Create a tailored treatment plan that works for you
How many sessions will I need to recover?
Every person heals differently, but we’ll give you a clear idea of what to expect after your first session. Some people feel improvements straight away, while others need a structured plan over several weeks. We’ll review your progress regularly and adapt your treatment as you recover.
Can physiotherapy help with sports injuries?
Whether you’re a professional athlete or a weekend runner, we’ll help you:
- Recover quickly and safely from injuries
- Build strength and flexibility
- Reduce your risk of re-injury
- Improve performance and confidence
Do you only treat athletes, or can anyone come for physiotherapy?
You don’t need to be sporty to benefit from physiotherapy. We treat people of all ages and activity levels – from office workers with back pain, to parents lifting children, to retirees staying active and mobile.
Is physiotherapy painful?
Physiotherapy is designed to relieve pain, not cause it. Some treatments may feel challenging as your body works to heal, but we’ll always work at a level you’re comfortable with.
What techniques or treatments do you use?
We use the latest evidence-based treatments including:
- Tailored exercise programmes
- Sports rehabilitation and conditioning
- Movement re-training
- Running education and assessment
- Education to help you understand and manage your body better
- Health and lifestyle behaviour change coaching
- Gym programmes
- Occasionally we might use manual therapy if required for pain modification
Do you offer tailored exercise plans to prevent future injuries?
We don’t just treat your current problem – we help you stay well. You’ll receive personalised exercises, advice, and strategies to keep pain away and reduce the risk of future injuries.
What should I wear?
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. If you’re attending for a lower limb issue, it’s helpful if you can bring a pair of shorts.
Since we’ll likely spend some time in the rehab gym, comfortable clothing is usually better than jeans or a suit. That said, don’t worry—if you arrive in your usual clothes, the session can still go ahead without any problem.
Do you accept insurance?
ProCare is registered with a range of insurance providers. As policies can differ, we recommend checking your individual cover with your provider before starting treatment.
Do you offer hands on therapy?
At ProCare, our priority is finding the right diagnosis and building a clear, evidence-based plan that helps you recover and stay confident in managing your injury. While our approach focuses mainly on active rehabilitation and long-term results, we may use hands-on techniques such as joint or soft tissue mobilisation when it supports your overall treatment plan. The goal is always to use the right tools at the right time — to get you moving better, faster, and with lasting results.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book directly online using our booking system or get in touch via phone or email.
Do you offer same day or urgent appointments?
Yes — we do our best to offer same-day or urgent appointments whenever possible. As the clinic can get busy, availability may vary, so it’s always best to check our online booking diary for the most up-to-date appointment times. If you can’t find a slot that works, feel free to get in touch and we’ll do our best to fit you in as soon as we can.
Is there parking at the clinic?
There isn’t on-site parking, but Bridge Street public car park is just a two-minute walk away at the bottom of Mitchell Hill. We recommend allowing a little extra time — around 20 minutes before your appointment — as the car park can get busy, especially during the summer months.
Are you open on Saturdays?
Yes, We are open from 8am until 13.00.
How do you accept payment?
Most people pay on card or phone and we do take Amex. We also accept bank transfers.
